FAQ: Proton VPN streaming
Q: Which plan lets me use streaming services with Proton VPN?
A: We only guarantee streaming if you have a VPN Plus, Proton Unlimited, or Visionary (legacy users only) Plan . If you are on a Free plan, you will need to upgrade your subscription to stream videos.
Upgrade to a Proton VPN Plus plan today.
Or, if you don’t have a subscription yet, sign up for Proton VPN Plus.
Q: Can I stream videos on my mobile device while using Proton VPN?
A: Yes, you watch videos from most popular streaming platforms on your Android or iOS device. These days this usually requires using a dedicated app.
Check the guides above to see which streaming-specific services work with mobile apps.
Q: Can I stream videos and movies on my TV with Proton VPN?
We offer a Proton VPN app for Android TV. This operating system is built into some TVs and is used by a wide selection of streaming sticks (such as the Chromecast with Google TV) and boxes that can plug into any TV with a spare HDMI port. Our Android TV app can also be sideloaded onto an Amazon Fire TV device (“firestick”).
Q: Which Plus plan servers do I need to connect to in order to stream movies or TV shows?
A: This depends on which streaming service you are trying to use. We often support streaming services in multiple countries. For example, if using Proton VPN to watch Netflix, by default you will access the United States Netflix catalog.
We also support the local versions of Netflix in the following countries: the United States, United Kingdom, India, Italy, Australia, Germany, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, and France. To connect to these local versions of Netflix, just connect to a Plus server in the relevant country.
Each guide clearly explains which countries a streaming service is available in.

Q: Can I stream videos while connected to a Secure Core server?
A: We do not recommend this. The Secure Core servers in your final destination country do not always support streaming. Also, since Secure Core’s purpose is to add an additional layer of security against network attacks, it is not optimized for streaming content, which can lead to poorer video quality.
